Maidaan: a glimpse of Indian Football of the “golden age”, Ajay Devgn starrer, ‘Maidaan’ is an upcoming biopic, based on the life of a football coach, Syed Abdul Rahim, in the year 1952-62 of the golden era.
Badhaai Ho fame director Amit Sharma directed Maidaan is produced by Zee Studios in association with Bayview Projects LLP, the shooting started on August 19, 2019.
The National Award winner Keerthi Suresh was the first choice to play lead female opposite Ajay Devgn but makers felt that she is looking young to play a motherly role in the film, another South Indian actress Priyamani grabbed the role.
The architect of Indian football, who paved the way for Indian football, Syed Abdul Rahim, is being portrayed by Ajay Devgn. It is based on the real-life experiences of Syed Rahim.

Maidaan Story
The movie will depict the story of one of the greatest coaches of India, Syed Abdul Rahim, who helped put India on the map of the world. Syed was born in Hyderabad in the year 1909 and was popularly known as Rahim Saab. He served as the national team manager and Indian football coach from 1950 till his death in 1963. He was a teacher by profession.
The period of his leadership as India’s football coach is regarded as the golden era. Under his direction, the Indian team was able to qualify for the semifinals of the Melbourne Olympic Football Tournament in 1956, becoming the first Asian nation to do so.
In addition, Rahim led the Hyderabad city police from 1943 to 1963. Later that year, in 1951, India won the gold medal at the Asian Games. His last and only success came when India defeated South Korea at the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta and won the gold medal.

If that we hear is true, then apparently Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan will now release on May 12, 2023. Confirming the same a source close to the project informed teknikalraman.com exclusively, “Maidaan is a rather ambitious film with a decently big budget.
With Ajay Devgn requesting the makers of Maidaan to release the movie after the release Bholaa, they had to reconsider a new date.” Further talking about the new date, the source continues, “As of now Maidaan will release on May 12, 2023.
Since it is an open window with next to no release till June 2 when the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan hits screens, the movie will benefit immensely. In this period the only two releases are Yaariyaan 2 and Swatantra Veer Savarkar, both of which are expected to post no competition to Maidaan.”
Though an official announcement of the new release date is awaited, we are told that the makers will be making a formal announcement in the coming days.
As for the film, Maidaan produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla, and Arunava Joy Sengupta, the screenplay and dialogues are written by Saiwyn Quadras and Ritesh Shah respectively. The film will also release in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam languages.
