Started on April 1st, 2016, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) is the government’s main plan from the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), managed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). PMAY-G’s goal is to offer solid homes with basic needs to families without houses and those living in weak houses in rural areas.

What is Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana?

This plan helps fix the shortage of rural homes and lessens the lack of housing in India’s countryside, contributing a lot to the “Housing for All” mission. The houses built under PMAY-G are at least 25 square meters in size, including a special spot for clean cooking. By September 27th, 2022, 2.00 crore homes were built out of the total aim of 2.72 crore homes.

Beneficiaries are chosen based on their situation in the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC), and local Gram Sabhas confirm their details.

The money is sent directly to the beneficiary’s bank account or post office account linked with Aadhaar. PMAY-G will continue for two more years, until March 31st, 2024.

Aim and Objective- PMAY-G

The main goal of PMAY-G is to give solid houses with basic needs to families without homes and those living in weak houses in rural areas by 2024. The first target is to help 1.00 Crore households in rural regions that lack homes or live in weak houses between 2016 and 2019.
