“Squid Game was the most physically abusive childhood game I played as a kid in neighbourhood alleyways, which is why I also enjoyed it the most,” creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said during a South Korean news conference the same month the show’s title and premise were announced.
“In some ways, it’s the most emblematic game that depicts today’s competitive world, therefore I chose it as the title of the programme.”
