With PSU Bank, Auto, Financials, Metal and IT companies outperforming, all sectoral indexes were positive.
The Sensex was up 606.57 points, or 1.15 percent, at 53,334.55 at roughly 09.46 in the morning. In the opening bell, the 30-scrip index reached a fresh 52-week high of 53,509.50.
Tech Mahindra, up 4 % was the biggest gainer on the Sensex, followed by HCL Tech up 3.6 %, Wipro up, 2.5 percent, Infosys up 2.4 % and Bajaj Finance up 2.2 %
Nifty 50, meanwhile, was up 178.90 points or 1.14 percent, trading close to the day's high at 15,878.15. A new intraday high of 15,927.45 was reached by the 50-scrip index.
Heavyweights L&T, JSW Steel, Hindalco, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, and Tata Motors gained more than 1 percent on the NSE, adding to the profits.
Nifty Metal increased by 1.8 percent, Nifty IT by almost 3 percent, and Bank Nifty by 1.2 percent. Nifty Pharma and Nifty PSU Bank both increased by more than 1%.
On the international front, Asian markets began trading in the green, with the ASX index leading the way with a gain of more than 1.5 percent
