SRH does not have a fear factor in the lower middle-order: Deep Dasgupta

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has five wins in 12 league matches and is at eighth position in the IPL 2022 points table. They still have an outside chance for the qualification, if they manage to win the remaining two games by a big margin.

They are currently facing Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium. Ahead of this fixture, the former Indian cricketers Deep Dasgupta and Mohammad Azharuddin shared their views on SRH.

Dasgupta reckoned that apart from Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran, there is not much firepower in the SRH’s middle-order. He thinks both the batters played well to contribute to the team in a consistent fashion.

The former batter further questioned the abilities of the Playing XI to chase down a strong total of 180 on the board.

“If you look at their players in the middle order, they have Markram and Pooran, Shashank Singh, and Washington Sundar. Markram is very orthodox and is playing quite well, and Pooran has been impressive with his performances,

as compared to the previous two seasons. But after them, they do not have enough fear factor for the bowlers. They can chase down the target of around 160, but for example, if they have to chase, who will they go after?,” said Dasgupta

It’s too late for Kane Williamson to bat at lower batting positions: Mohammad Azharuddin

On being asked whether Kane Williamson should change his batting position, Azharuddin thinks it’s too late for the SRH captain, as the team is nearly out of the contention for the playoffs.

He further added that the in-form players like Rahul Tripathi should bat at the same position to provide stability to the team. Meanwhile, Williamson has opted to change his batting position and Tripathi has scored a half-century in the ongoing fixture against MI
